This is the second installment of our new Story series, where we interview the people behind the brands we carry at Wowlah. Many of our brands are independent makers and bakers who are passionate about the food they make, and have a fascinating story about their journeys.
If you're on the keto diet in Singapore, there's a big chance you know about Seriously Keto. We interviewed the founder, Janti Brasali, to learn about her keto journey.
Tell us your brand story - where did the idea come from?
When I first adopted the keto diet back in 2016, I found that this lifestyle was super easy to abide by and maintain. I easily found food at restaurants that were keto-compliant. However, there was one thing missing from the market at that time, and that was keto desserts. Having grown up in the kitchen, my natural response was to create cakes and sweet treats that contain no sugar or carbs for health-conscious individuals to be able to enjoy. One thing led to another, and soon I had an entire array of desserts and breads to share, and I wanted to share it with as many people as I could. After developing a deeper understanding of keto, I found out that the true root of disease is sugar. I’m hoping that by making these sugar-free products available, it will help to steer people away from dangerously eating all the sugar that is found in other breads and cakes, and create a healthier future for everybody!
What makes Seriously Keto so unique?
Everything we produce at Seriously Keto contains zero added sugars; we are keto-compliant, diabetic-friendly, gluten-free, and low-carb. We use a sugar substitute called Swerve, which is an erythritol based sweetener that does not get absorbed by our bodies, which means it has no effect on blood glucose levels, and is totally safe to consume by people who suffer from diabetes.
Tell us your mission behind your ingredients?
Our goal at Seriously Keto is to provide a delicious range of products that are healthier alternatives to what is currently available in the market, but without sacrificing in quality or taste. Our ingredients are carefully selected in order to meet our nutritional standards yet maintaining a high level of quality.
Lastly, do you have any advice for people on keto diets?
The most important piece of advice I could give is for people to read labels. Diets provide guidelines for what you should consume on a daily basis, but the percentages and daily intake amounts might differ from person to person depending on age, height, or what you are hoping to achieve. So although a product claims to be low-carb, “low-carb” may have a different definition to different people.
